Fun Florida Trips That Offer Something New

Most Florida trips mean spending a week at Walt Disney World and the surrounding theme parks, but there is more to Florida than Mickey Mouse. If your time in Florida has been spent solely in Orlando, you are definitely missing out. There are tons of great Florida trips that take you to fun spots that are different but completely wonderful.

Florida Trips - The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys provide one of the most interesting and unique Florida vacation destinations. The Keys are a group of islands off the southern tip of Florida that are connected by the Overseas Highway, an extension of U.S. 1 that runs almost 130 miles from Florida City to Key West. People who live in Florida vacation in the Florida Keys.

Driving is definitely the most scenic way to travel the Florida Keys, and the Overseas Highway is a road trip experience that is not duplicated elsewhere. One of the highlights of this massive water lined roadway is the Seven Mile Bridge, which spans from the Middle Keys to the Lower Keys.

The Keys offer beautiful beaches, fantastic fishing and the most exquisite diving in the country. If you make it all the way down to Key West, you can visit the former home of Ernest Hemingway in the southernmost city in the continental USA. Key West is actually closer to Cuba (106 miles) than it is to Miami (129 miles).

Fun Florida Trips - Let's Hit the Beach

Florida is surrounded by beaches, and some of the best of them are found on the southeast coast of the state. From Delray Beach to Fort Lauderdale Beach to South Beach, the sand is soft, the water shimmers and the fun is on.

For a beachy day that isn't quite so touristy, Florida's west coast offers one of the finest undeveloped beaches at Caladesi State Park. Caladesi is an island paradise accessible only by ferry boat. It is natural Florida at its best, and offers visitors a chance to kick way back and just enjoy the beach the way it used to be.

Fun Florida Trips - Ocala National Forest

Bet you didn't realize there was a forest in Florida. In fact, the Ocala National Forest is the oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River. At over 700 square miles, Ocala National Forest provides an amazing amount of activities for adventurous travelers that want to try something different.

Temperatures in the Ocala National Forest make for great camping weather pretty much anytime of year, and the environment offers something for everyone. Camping is the most popular way to visit the Forest, and there are a number of different campsites available to guests all year round.

Visitors to the Ocala National Forest can enjoy hiking, biking and horseback riding on hundreds of trails winding throughout the park. Boating, fishing, water skiing, canoeing and even hunting are also popular activities for guests of the Forest. It's a great place to get a glimpse of old, wild Florida. It's also a wonderful way to spend a Florida vacation that doesn't require a ton of money and mobs of tourists.

So, if you're looking for something different to do on your next Florida trip, check out the Keys, Caladesi State Park or the Ocala National Forest for something new and different.
